The Guji region in the Oromiya region of Ethiopia is particularly famous for its Hambela Washing Station, and produces some of the highest quality coffee. The region’s high altitude (2,000 meters), fertile clay soil and sustainable farming practices contribute to the coffee’s excellent quality. The station focuses on meticulous hand-picking and processing techniques, working with 3,500 smallholder farmers. The name “Hambela Wamena” means “Land of the Survivors” in the Oromo language, and reflects the region’s resilient society. This emphasis on sustainability and ideal growing conditions make Guji coffee a highly sought-after commodity worldwide.
